For more than seven years now, I have worked with a specific photographic approach, capturing images of the ordinary things in my world without manipulating the environment in anyway. Early this summer I was invited to participate in SculptureFest, a mostly outdoor event at King Farm in Woodstock, Vermont, with the theme of “Grounding”. Sculpture? Photography? I was at a loss to figure out what I could do that would fit in.
BUT, I was also given this funky old cabin to work with which I had often photographed in the past and which, in a way, is a sculpture in itself. I have two rooms to work with and have decided to take an old red chair on an adventure around the property. This is new for me. (If you’ve been following this blog you’ve seen a few previews of what I’ve been working on.) Here I am now manipulating the environment! And, to take it further, I’ve also decided to work mostly in black and white, with only the chair showing it’s color. And, finally, I’ve decided I wanted to print on fabric (brand new media for me).
The title of my installation is “In Situ”.
I’ve just posted an announcement on the exhibit page of this website announcing the opening on September. If you’re in the area, please stop by. I would love to take you on a tour of this funky little cabin to see the work I’ll be installing.
