The advent of the digital camera has made photography much more accessible to everyone. But what do we take photos of? Snapshots of friends and family? Scenic views? Beautiful sunsets?
In this class we’ll use the camera to look at the world differently. Drawing on contemplative photography practices, we’ll discover the beauty and mystery in the ordinary. This is not a technique class, although we might touch on technique as we seek to refine an image. This is not a composition class, although we might consider small tweaks to an image to improve its composition. This IS a class where you’ll practice becoming quiet inside so that you can truly see what’s in front of you and discover the wealth of imagery that’s always right there if you just pay attention.
The first (5 hour) session we’ll do a series of exercises with and without the camera to help you begin to look at the world differently. For the remaining 5 two-hour sessions, we’ll review images you bring to class in response to thematic weekly assignments. As we progress through the class you’ll begin to recognize your photographic aesthetic and during the final session you’ll have an opportunity to develop and show a portfolio of your best work.
Notes: Please bring your digital camera to each class. You’ll also need access to the internet outside of class to upload images before each class. If you’re a visual artist, not a photographer, this class will use the medium of photography to provide material for your artwork.

Carla, love to see the new direction in which you are teaching/sharing your craft/skills. Wish that I lived closer to take the Seeing with New Eyes workshops. And very reasonably priced. Am thinking how we could make a connection in Gloucester? Maybe in the spring or summer you might be able to offer it in two week session. It would also bring in a new audience. Must admit my idea is a bit self serving as i would love to sign on.

Hi Carol,
Let’s talk! I think it would be very possible to do the first one-day session in Gloucester and then the remainder through a webinar format. (which I’ve been giving thought to recently). Also, I’m always looking for a reason to come to Gloucester. I love it there. Send me an email and lets’ think about the logistics.
